As the death knell for cigarettes sounds, it was necessary to pay tribute to the century that promoted, then glorified, before declaring war on them. Who still remembers that just a few years ago, it was perfectly normal to smoke a cigarette on a plane? How many public figures dare to be photographed smoking today, when posing with a cigarette was once part of the chic and essential image adopted by several generations of stars? Born at the end of the 19th century and demonized at the beginning of the 21st, the history of the cigarette coincides with a century of glamour and industry. And while for several decades smoking was associated with freedom, it must be acknowledged that using a cigarette is now considered a provocation, even an act of aggression. No Smoking is a social retrospective of the cigarette—from its birth to its peak, and its fall.
